monero

Trying out some crypto things.

1 Solo / pool mining monero

No use, long time, little gain.

1.1 Setup nodes and wallets

Install the monero cli and daemon:

sudo apt-get install -t testing monero

Eventually run a node, but it gets messy and it weights a ton … Bootstrap node with a blockchain dump or better even Speedup initial sync from the monero how.

Create a wallet, using a remote node or a local node … See create a wallet with CLI for the basic approach.

wget https://downloads.getmonero.org/blockchain.raw
monero-blockchain-import --verify 0 --input-file ./blockchain.raw
rm -rf ./blockchain.raw

1.2 Setup some pool workers

I don't have GPUs but I can run many CPU workers, and register for low complexity work.

xmrpool.eu seems like a recommend pool, which recommends https://github.com/fireice-uk/xmr-stak as a miner.

sudo apt install libmicrohttpd-dev libssl-dev cmake build-essential libhwloc-dev
git clone https://github.com/fireice-uk/xmr-stak.git
mkdir xmr-stak/build
cd xmr-stak/build
cmake .. -DCUDA_ENABLE=OFF -DOpenCL_ENABLE=OFF -DMICROHTTPD_ENABLE=OFF
make install
